The primary light source of the laser pointer is a laser LED. It generates a beam with a wavelength of about 808 nm, which passes through the lens, then enters the crystal, which is based on neodymium, yttrium, vanadium oxides. In the crystal, the light rays are converted into waves with a length of 1064 nm. Further, the stream acquires a wavelength of 532-670 nm. Having passed through an infrared filter, the stream is collected in a beam through a lens.

Instructions

Step 1

To make a laser pointer with your own hands, take a disused DVD writer. If you have a choice, go for a higher speed drive because it has a more powerful laser. Prepare the remains of the cheapest children's laser pointer, its optical part. For the same purpose, you can use the simplest Chinese flashlight. Buy a 100 microfarad capacitor - 16 volts and a 10 picofarad ceramic disk capacitor, a microcircuit, a voltage stabilizer KR 1158 EH 3V.

Step 2

Remove the optical element from the DVD drive. In it you will see two laser diodes. One of them is infrared, it writes and reads CDs, and the second is DVD. You need a DVD laser diode. Gently wrap thin wire around the legs to prevent static electricity from damaging it.

Step 3

Locate the three leads on the back of the laser diode. The first is an input for +2, 6 - 2, 8 V. The second pin is a minus of the same voltage. The third is not involved.

Step 4

Assemble the diagram. Solder a non-polar capacitor to the laser diode. Now remove the wire from its legs. Solder a polarized capacitor and a voltage regulator where the first pin is the output, the second is common, and the third is the input. Be aware of the positive polarity of the voltage so as not to damage the circuit.

Now put together a stabilizer with two capacitors, a button from any discarded radio device, a battery, and the optical part of a child's laser pointer.

Step 5

If you decide to use a lens from a DVD drive, keep in mind that it has a shorter focal length, so you will have to install an additional spring that will press the lens more tightly against the laser diode.
