The essence of decoupage is in sticking pictures for decorating various objects. But decoupage masters achieve real beauty with such a simple, at first glance, method.
The essence of decoupage is simple - choose images and stick them on the object that you want to decorate. But at the same time, with a little practice, you can get objects that will give the impression of beautifully painted or truly antique.
Decoupage can be on completely different surfaces - glass, metal, plastic, on candles, on cardboard, but probably the easiest way is to do decoupage on wood. That is, in this way, you can decorate almost everything - from little things like jewelry boxes, small interior items, to furniture. On the Internet, you can find many items that are decorated using this technique, for example, watches, decorative plates, jewelry, souvenirs.
The following materials are usually used for decoupage: decoupage images (paper napkins with drawings, decoupage cards, magazine clippings, etc.), glue (for example, PVA), paints and varnishes (to protect the finished decor, paint on, touch up if necessary the necessary parts of the drawing, the object that we decorate), well, and the actual object that you want to decorate (a blank that can be bought in a needlework store or something unnecessary on the farm).
The sequence of performing decoupage: the surface must be prepared (sanded, primed, depending on the type of surface) so that the drawing adheres well. Then decoupage patterns are glued and intermediate varnishing takes place to protect them. After that - painting, using other decor techniques (aging, craquelure …). All this is covered with a finishing coat of varnish.
