By the sale and volume of released albums, discs, sold-out at concerts and other nuances of show business, one can judge the success of one or another singer and musician. And, despite the patriotic feelings, we have to state the sad fact that Russian music is significantly inferior in popularity to foreign music. And not only in the world, but also in Russia.
The reasons for the success of foreign music lie in the quality of the musical material and the powerful advertising. Major record companies such as Universal, BMG or Sony-music work with foreign performers. They are able to offer the latest advances in science and technology for sound arrangement, make powerful advertising on all television programs and media. Of course, it is quite difficult for Russian recording studios to compete with such titans of the music market. Simply put, foreign performers and the companies behind them have more money to gain global popularity and offer quality material. The dominance of foreign music is also intensified by total globalization, communication with foreign friends and colleagues, and penetration into another cultural layer. After all, it is always interesting to hear new music, which also brings you closer to understanding a foreign country. The widespread idea that foreign is always better also contributes to the process of popularizing foreign music. Sociological studies have revealed that contemporary Russian music, in the opinion of the majority of respondents, is packed with pop music, designed for commercial success and no more. It is difficult to find meaning in such songs, and their very performance and musical arrangement does not touch the strings of the human soul. In addition, in the Russian show business there is a tendency of mass absorption of foreign culture. It can be seen in the number of remakes based on the works of foreign performers. And listening to other people's tunes with a Russian interpretation is not to every connoisseur of music. At the same time, domestic music lovers note that Russian hits are closer to our people than the text of songs. After all, many people love not only to listen to a piece of music, but also to understand its meaning.
