Instructions

Step 1

The first paintings appeared at a time when a person learned to use various substances as paints and try to depict the reality around him. The most ancient rock carvings, made in the era of primitive man, have survived. In the classical sense, painting is an artistic work performed with oil or other special paints on canvas or other surface.

Step 2

Since painting is a fine art, it tends to mimic the environment. The artist on a flat surface creates a three-dimensional realistic image using color and linear perspective. The colors are mixed on a special palette, and the canvas is placed on a stand - an easel

Step 3

Depending on what the artist depicts, several main genres are distinguished in modern painting: portrait (image of a person), landscape (pictures of nature), still life (drawing inanimate objects) and everyday painting (depicting scenes of everyday reality).

Step 4

Artists use a variety of paints, the most common of which are oil and watercolors. Painting with oil paints is a rather long and laborious process. Before you start painting, you need to prepare your canvas. This can be a canvas stretched on a stretcher, or a wooden board. The working surface is then covered with a special primer, and when its layer dries up, they begin to work.

Step 5

Watercolor is very often used for painting in the open air (painting outdoors). These paints are easy to use and compact. In addition to them, you only need water, brushes and paper (it is advisable to use special watercolor paper). Images made in watercolor technique have transparent colors, you can create bright, but airy drawings. Other commonly used paints are gouache, tempera, enamel, pastel, ink and acrylic.

Step 6

Depending on the materials used and the painting technique, different types of painting can be distinguished. Grisaille is a monochrome (i.e. monochromatic) painting. The painting is done in different tones of the same color, most often sepia. Pointillism is a direction and technique of painting in which a painting consists of small strokes of the same shape and size. The colors in this technique are not mixed, but if you look at the picture from a distance, you will see smooth transitions of tones. There is also glue painting - glue is added to the paint to obtain rich and lasting matte colors.

Step 7

Despite the variety of materials for drawing, techniques and directions, everyone can start painting. Start your first steps by drawing simple still lifes. Watercolors, a set of soft brushes and paper are just a few things you need to create your first paintings.
