Plot, actors

The original translation of the title of the film sounds like "Lies and Theft", and in the Russian box office they came up with a more sonorous version for it. The main character of the film, Ivan, is a thief who specializes in stealing works of art from wealthy Los Angeles residents. He inherited the criminal craft from his father. Although his dishonest business is booming, the young swindler wants to quit with him. But in that matter, he has big problems, since Ivan is bound by a diabolical deal with a vain and cruel crime boss.

One day he meets the mysterious beauty Alice. This girl calls herself an aspiring actress, but she still cannot completely part with her criminal past. Debts and financial difficulties push her to another crime. By joining forces, Ivan and Alice are planning to commit their last, most daring and large-scale robbery, which is unlikely to make them rich, but, with a high probability, will give the long-awaited freedom.

The film project has been in development since November 2017. The script for "The Art of Deception" was written by the director of the film, Matt Aselton, together with Adam Nagata. For movie lovers, this creative tandem is also known for its comedy-drama film Giant (2009), starring Paul Dano and Zooey Deschanel.

Theo James

In his new project, Aselton invited an equally brilliant acting duet. In the image of Ivan, viewers will see the rising star of Hollywood Theo James, who became famous for his role of Tobias Eaton in the series of films "Divergent". The actor's sexy and attractive appearance was also appreciated by the fashion house Hugo Boss, inviting him in 2015 to advertise a men's perfume line.

And the famous model and aspiring actress Emily Ratajkowski reincarnated as the partner of the charming thief. She already has several notable roles. For example, in 2014, the sexy beauty played the lover of the hero Ben Affleck in the psychological thriller Gone Girl. Other works of Emily, where she performed the main roles, have not yet brought her great success and recognition in the world of cinema. But the star of the photo shoots does not give up and continues to hone her acting skills.

In addition to the duo of the main stars, the film "The Art of Deception" brought together a worthy ensemble of actors, consisting of Fred Melamed, Evan Handler, Fernanda Andrade, Bob Stevenson, Isaiah Whitlock Jr., John Gatins, Tim Bader, Aris Alvarado, Tati Coleman and many others.

Trailer, premiere

The budget for The Art of Deception is quite modest by Hollywood standards - "only" $ 3 million. Therefore, the film is unlikely to find a place for dizzying stunts or complex special effects. Probably, the creators relied on a fascinating plot and bright acting.

In the Russian box office for the crime drama Matt Aselton set the age limit "16+". The rights to show the film were acquired by the domestic company MEGOGO Distribution, and the start in the cinemas of our country is scheduled for July 18.
