Biography
Massimo Troisi was born on February 19, 1953 in the small Italian town of San Giorgio a Cremano, in the Campania region, in the province of Naples. He died on June 4, 1994 in Rome. Troisi was born into a large family of a train engineer. Some of the events that took place in his house were reflected in his work. After graduating from high school, Massimo wrote several poems. He was inspired by Pier Paolo Pasolini.
Since 1969, Troisi has played in a small local theater with some of his childhood friends. Among them were Lello Arena and Enzo Decaro. Due to the early death of his mother, Massimo worked hard and worried. In 1976, he underwent heart valve surgery at a clinic in the United States. All expenses were covered by his friends.
Career
Troisi began his acting career quite early - at the age of 15. He first played in the Centro Teatro Spazio. Massimo became widely known between 1976 and 1979. Then he participated in shows such as Non Stop and Luna Park. Troisi's first feature film was the 1981 film I'll Start With Three. Thanks to his creative activity, Troisi was nominated 20 times for the most prestigious film awards and won them 9 times.
Some prizes were given to him posthumously, since Massimo passed away very early. He suffered from heart disease since childhood. At 41, Massimo suffered a heart attack and died. This happened 12 hours after the filming of The Postman was over. Director Michael Radford noticed that the actor was losing strength and suggested that he take a break from work. But Troisi worked hard to the end.
