Guinea pigs thrive in captivity. But for this they must have normal living conditions. Guinea pigs love spacious, draft-free cages that have everything they need, including shelter. You can buy a small house without a bottom at a pet store, or you can make it yourself. And if you are going to take your pets to the country, you need to take care of a more serious home.
It is necessary
- Plastic box with dimensions not less than 20x20x20 cm
- Plywood 1 cm thick
- Reiki
- Planks
- Hammer, nails, jigsaw, hacksaw
- Impregnation for wood
- Glass wool
- Metal grid
- Wooden beams for support
Instructions
Step 1
A plastic box of a suitable size can be used as a house that constantly stands in a cage. To do this, you need to make an entrance to it. Draw the outlines of the hole on one of the walls and cut out the entrance with a hacksaw or jigsaw. The bottom is not needed in such a house.
Step 2
If you can't find a suitable box, make the box yourself. Cut four squares out of thick plywood. The size of a wooden house is about the same as a plastic one. It can be made in any shape. The main thing is that the animal fits there freely. Cut a hole in one square. Cut 3 slats, equal in height to the height of the house. Nail the pieces of plywood onto them so that the slats are inside. What the roof will be like depends on your taste. The pigs don't care, so you can make a flat roof. Cut 4 more pieces of batten to the length and width of the house. Cut corners at 45 ° or cut notches. Connect the slats together. Pin them to the walls of the house. Place a roof on top of them and nail it down. …
Step 3
If you are going to take the pigs to the dacha, take care of a more spacious house. Make a double-walled wooden box. The dimensions of its inner part correspond to the dimensions of the cage. Mark out the plywood and cut 4 pieces out of it for the inner house and 4 for the outer one. Cover the outside with impregnation so that the house does not rot. The outer perimeter will be slightly larger, the gap between the walls is 2.5-3 cm. Fill the gaps between the walls with glass wool. And the country house, of course, has a bottom. It slides out so that you can maintain cleanliness and order.
Step 4
Make a large door in the front wall of the house. Tighten it with a metal mesh. In the rain, it will be necessary to hang this door with sacking, since rain is harmful to pigs, but at the same time, they need air. Cover the roof of the house with tar paper or other similar material intended for roofing.
Step 5
Nail the assembled house onto 4 supports. Dig the supports into the ground to a depth of at least 0.5 m. The supports themselves must be at least 1.5 m long (it is better to add another 15-20 cm). You can, of course, put the house on a table specially made for this. The main thing is that the structure is stable. In this case, the house should not stand on the ground. Pigs love warmth, and the temperature in the cage, even on cold nights, should not drop below -5 ° C.
