Quentin Tarantino is a renowned film director, screenwriter, actor and producer. There have been ups and downs in his creative life. But, thanks to them, we can enjoy great films that have won various awards more than once, including Oscars.
The future American film director Quentin Tarantino was born on March 27, 1963. During his life, he managed to make a career in the field of cinematography, trying on the role of a screenwriter, film producer, actor and film director.
The child was born in Knoxville, and two years later, with his mother, he moved to Los Angeles. At that time, his own father left the family, and eight years later, Quentin had a stepfather, who officially adopted him.
In the future, Quentin will decide to regain his biological father's surname, because it will be more suitable for his career.
After graduating from elementary school in Los Angeles, little Tarantino is diligently engaged in drama lessons, receiving an acting education.
His love for the world of cinema was passed on to him from his adoptive father. He was fond of watching films and television series surrounded by his bohemian friends, and little Quentin was almost constantly among this company.
Even then, the desire arose in the boy to come up with something on his own. Dreaming of someday creating his own film, he played with toys, each time coming up with a new performance with their participation.
With his studies, he had a strained relationship, and at the age of 16 he decides to drop out of school. At this age, he first got a job as a ticket clerk of a cinema, in which porn films were the main asset of the institution.
The work does not bring him any development, and Quentin spends his free time in classes in the acting class, which is taught by James Best.
But, no matter how hard he tried, he could not prove himself as a worthy actor for any role. He leaves the theater workshop.
After quitting his previous job, Tarantino gets a job at the Video Archive store as a cassette seller. The reward he receives for his work is not enough for anything, but the guy is not upset at all.
He has the opportunity to freely view films that were recorded on cassettes and sold in the store. Thanks to these films, he developed his own directing style for himself.
But in the future, Tarantino will more than once be reproached for the fact that he shamelessly used many ideas for his films from other people's works that were viewed earlier.
The first steps
Quentin begins to write scripts for films. His first screenplay, which he wrote in 1985, Captain Pitchfooz and the Anchovy Bandit, never really caught on. But he does not give up and starts creating a new masterpiece.
In 1989, a new script with the telling name "True Love" was released. He managed to sell this work for thirty thousand dollars to the Writers Guild. Thus began his successful career in screenwriting.
But this was not enough for Tarantino. He wanted not only to write stories, but also to make his films based on them. Of course, it all came down to a lack of finance.
Soon, Tarantino did shoot his first short film, but it was doomed to failure - a fire broke out during the editing, which destroyed the last frames of the film.
Successful career
His next attempt to break into the cinema was the script for the film "Reservoir Dogs". It took Quentin six years to find a producer for this project.
A gift of fate was the allocated budget for the shooting of the film in the amount of one and a half million dollars. The picture presented to the public not only recouped all the costs, but also raised more than twenty million dollars, becoming the best film of the year.
From unexpected success, Tarantino loses control over himself - he goes to Amsterdam, where he leads an obscene lifestyle. There he also wrote his next masterpiece, which brought him worldwide fame.
It was the script for the movie Pulp Fiction. The famous project was nominated for an Oscar in seven nominations and received the Palme d'Or, and Tarantino was awarded an Oscar for Best Screenplay.
The next film "Four Rooms" was not so successful and gained fans in narrow circles.
In 1996, Tarantino tries his hand at From Dusk Till Dawn, not only as a scriptwriter, but also as an actor. After that, there were several more attempts to repeat the previous success of previous years, but they were unsuccessful.
The filmmaker disappears for six years, plunging into producing and playing minor roles in low-budget film projects, starring in unpopular TV shows.
He presented his return to cinema to his fans with the spectacular crime thriller "Kill Bill" in 2003. This film paid for itself fivefold. In 2004, the second part comes out, which also brings huge income. In 2007, the films "Planet of Fear" and "Death Proof" were released, and in 2009, "Inglourious Basterds", which became the most successful project of the decade.
Inglourious Basterds won an Oscar, Golden Globe and many other awards.
In 2012, two more films were awarded Oscars - Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight.
Personal life of a genius screenwriter
Tarantino has always been popular with women and has never met love. On account of his many novels and broken women's hearts, especially actresses.
It was rumored that he met with Uma Thurman. Rumors arose due to the fact that they spent a lot of time together. But, in the end, the director himself refuted them, justifying himself by the fact that only creative relations connect them with Uma.
In 2017, Tarantino proposed to her 33-year-old girlfriend Daniele Peak. But the wedding never took place.
Quentin has always preferred freedom, which was essential to his career. Therefore, he still has not burdened himself with the bonds of marriage.
