Elastic band is one of the simplest and most versatile knitting patterns. Cuffs, socks, hats, mittens and even full sweaters can all be tied with an elastic band.
It is necessary
- - The threads from which you are going to knit
- - Knitting needles, suitable in thickness to the thread
Instructions
Step 1
Check if the knitting needles you are going to knit are suitable for the thread you are going to knit with. To do this, fold the thread in half and twist it. The thickness of the twisted thread should be approximately equal to the thickness of the knitting needle.
Step 2
Tie the swatch to calculate the correct number of stitches for the elastic. To do this, cast on 40 loops and knit 40 rows. Measure the resulting square. Now you know how many centimeters of elastic will be obtained from 40 loops.
Step 3
Cast on the needles the desired (even) number of loops. If you want to knit an elastic band, cast on 2 knitting needles. If you are going to knit a sock, mitten or hat, use circular knitting needles.
Step 4
To get the elastic, you need to alternate the front and back loops. You can alternate them through one, two or three loops. Tie a canvas or circle of the length you need and close all loops, observing the front and back.
