In portrait painting, however, as well as in various forms of art, there are laws of their own. To paint a successful portrait, these laws must be known and followed. Every beginner is faced with the question of how to convey on the sheet the resemblance to a particular person in simple words, and where to start painting a portrait in general.
It is necessary
A sheet of gray paper, pastel
Instructions
Step 1
Take charcoal or dark gray pastels and sketch out the outline of the face - an egg-shaped oval. Mark the levels of the eyes, nose and lips. Divide this egg shape in half, dot. This is where the eyes will be. If you split the bottom of the egg in half, you get the level of the tip of the nose. And finally, divide the lower part of the "egg" again, and you get the lip level.
Step 2
After that, we will begin to outline the facial features so as to achieve as much similarity as possible with the person posing for us. They are outlined with the help of shadows on the face and applied to the paper with cross-hatching. Further, we continue to clarify the proportions of the posing's head, pay great attention to individual details of the face and their location relative to each other. We change the outline of the contour to create the true shape of the head of the person sitting in front of us.
Step 3
We work with charcoal and dark gray pastels, add the rest of the shadows that lie on the face. The most important shadows are under the eyebrows, don't forget about them. They accentuate and highlight the eyes on the face. Begin to outline the hair as if it were a patch of uniform tone.
Step 4
With dark pink pastels, paint over the face mainly on the side where the light falls, in a moderate warm tone. Simplifying the flat parts of the face. Color the forehead, chin, cheeks, front and side sides of the nose as solid parts of the tone. Finally, paint the highlights with a light orange pastel. Before that, carefully consider those areas of the face that reflect the light falling from the side.
