A decoupage card is a paper that has been specially created for use in decoupage technique. It is easier to work with decoupage cards than with napkins. They do not frown or tear. Therefore, it is better for beginners to use cards. They differ from each other in density, format, printing method, manufacturer. These characteristics determine different ways of working with cards for decoupage.

It is necessary

  • -decoupage cards
  • - PVA glue or decoupage glue
  • -file
  • - roller

Instructions

Step 1

When starting to work with a decoupage card, decide on its density. This is the main indicator for choosing a way to work with it. Before you start working with a thin decoupage card, prepare the surface of the decor item. Sand it with sandpaper, removing all lint and roughness. Then apply acrylic primer to the surface. It is convenient to apply the primer with a sponge, so it lays down evenly. If the decoupage card is dense, it can be glued to a surface of any color without applying a primer.

Step 2

Prepare a dense decoupage card for work. If its size matches the borders of the object on which you will apply it or it is larger, carefully trim the edges of the decoupage card with scissors. If it is smaller, then tear off the edges with your hands. Thin the map so that the border does not stand out on the decor item. To do this, lightly sand the edges of the card with fine sandpaper.

Step 3

Then immerse the decoupage card for a few minutes in a container with water at room temperature. Apply the glue with a brush to the item to be decorated. Remove the decoupage card from the water, wait for excess moisture to drain, and place it on the glue. Place the file on top of the card and gently use a roller to remove any bubbles and excess glue. After the card is dry, brush on the acrylic varnish with a brush.

Step 4

The rice paper decoupage card is a low density card. Rice paper is produced in India. It is made of rice fiber, so it has fiber-like inclusions. Handle it more carefully, it is thinner and therefore more prone to tearing. Rice decoupage card can easily decorate any uneven surface: glasses, bottles. Therefore, it is considered universal.

Step 5

It can also be put in water beforehand, but for a shorter time. But you can work without moisture. In any case, lay it on the surface of the decor item. Apply PVA glue or decoupage glue on top with a brush. Press it through the file with a rubber roller to help remove excess moisture. After the card is dry, cover it with several coats of acrylic varnish.
