Even one modest twig of mimosa can be the best gift for the beautiful half of humanity on such a spring holiday as March 8. Many people associate the delicate aroma and brightness of the color of these flowers with the beginning of spring. However, unfortunately, mimosa is very short-lived; after a day or two, its fluffy twigs significantly lose their beauty.
One of the most effective ways to prolong the life of mimosa is to apply "shock therapy" to it, namely to dip the twigs into hot water for a while. To do this, you must first knock with a hammer on the ends of the branches (cuts) and flatten them properly. After that, place the flowers in a jar of hot water (the water temperature should be within 50-60 degrees), cover the top with a bag and leave for about 30 minutes. After the lapse of time, the mimosa can be taken out of the water and put in a vase, and no longer filling it with water. After this procedure, mimosa literally "comes to life" before our eyes, while its shelf life is increased by two or three times. It is worth noting that after doing this procedure, the aroma of the flowers of this plant almost completely disappears.
If the plant has stood in water for quite a long time and its flowers have slightly withered, then they can be "reanimated". To do this, put the kettle on the fire, wait until the water boils in it and steam comes out of the spout, then hold the mimosa branches over this steam for several minutes. It is necessary to keep the flowers over the steam for at least 10 minutes, and be sure to make sure that the flowers themselves are not scalded in any way, otherwise you will not only not prolong the youth of the plant, but also significantly reduce it.
Another effective way to prolong the life of mimosa is to wrap it in damp paper. To do this, prepare thick paper, for example, wallpaper, spray it with water using a spray bottle, put flowers on it and wrap it carefully. Place the bundle in a cool place for three to five hours. After the indicated time, place the mimosa in a vase and fill it with water and a special cut flower agent diluted in it (available at any flower shop). If desired, the product can be replaced with sugar or aspirin.
