Screenwriting is a rather specific genre of literature that requires special skill from the author. But even the most talented writer will sooner or later face the problem of where exactly he can send his script for further film adaptation of the latter.
Instructions
Step 1
In order for the script to appeal to the editors of major film companies, the author must do everything to ensure that his work meets the requirements of modern cinema. The screenwriter must understand that his work is a detailed instruction for filming, and therefore it must be created taking into account all the rules of the motion picture. To tidy up the script, the writer will need to read the scripting manual (or better, several). Modern filmmakers speak highly of the books by Alexander Mitta "Between Heaven and Hell" and Linda Seger "How to Make a Good Screenplay Great".
Step 2
Once the script meets all the requirements for it, you can start promoting it. To begin with, the author will need to create an application for the script, in which the following parameters must be specified: the name of the screenwriter and his contact information, the name of the film, the number of episodes (if we are talking about the series), potential audience, genre, description of the main characters, synopsis. The application should not exceed two pages, otherwise it will simply not be read.
Step 3
Among other things, the screenwriter will need to protect his work and his copyright to it. You can register the script in the patent office or confirm the rights to the work with a notary, but it is recommended to do this when the author no longer intends to rework it. Otherwise, the screenwriter can publish his work on Internet portals that protect copyright - Proza.ru or Screenwriter.ru. If necessary, the screenwriter will be able to prove his own authorship of the script, referring to the information of these portals. The Screenwriter.ru portal differs from others in that here the screenwriters exchange experience and review each other's work.
Step 4
Now you need to acquire a whole list of film studios of the country in which the screenwriter intends to publish his own work. Each studio has its own editorial staff looking for talented scripts. To begin with, you should send a request to the editors, and, if they are interested in it, send a script. The manuscript is not reviewed and is not returned, so if it does not interest the editors, the author may not wait for a response.
Step 5
In Russia and abroad, screenwriting contests are often held, the winners of which get a chance to film their work. Announcements of such events are often published on forums dedicated to screenwriting. If desired, the screenwriter can take part in such a competition, but no one guarantees that the film according to his script will actually be shot.
