If you are puzzling over how to surprise your friends at a holiday, carnival or joint party, an original idea will help you, with which you can create an unusual glowing tube, or Glow Stick, at home. To create such a tube, you do not need any rare and expensive materials, and its appearance, while being easy to manufacture, will be very effective. In this article, we will describe the technology for making a glowing tube with our own hands.
Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the materials - glass ampoule, blowtorch, fluorescent liquid, hydrogen peroxide, Teflon tape, copper caps to seal the tube, and finally the polyethylene or polypropylene tube itself.
Step 2
Using copper caps, tubing, and Teflon tape for fixing, assemble a ready-made container for future fluid. The tube should bend easily and one of the caps should be easy to unscrew from the thread. Use an adjustable wrench to secure the caps and nuts.
Step 3
Now light the blowtorch and solder the long tip of the glass pipette. Pour a small amount of hydrogen peroxide through the open end, without filling the pipette to the end. Light the blowtorch again and solder the other end of the ampoule. Wipe off the sealed ampoule and set aside.
Step 4
Prepare fluorescent liquid in a separate container and pour it gently into the tube with the top cap unscrewed. Place an ampoule of hydrogen peroxide inside by immersing it in a fluorescent liquid.
Step 5
Tightly screw the tube cap back on and make sure no liquid spills out.
Step 6
Check the resulting glow tube in a dark room - break it in half and shake it. You will see how the liquid inside the tube starts to glow as the fluorescent liquid mixes when the hydrogen peroxide ampoule breaks.
