Fishing in May is amazingly exciting. The fact is that it is at the end of spring that the fish rests after spawning and gains lost fat, and therefore actively eats everything that comes across on the way. This is the time for zhora, which means active biting.
Features of May fishing
River water warms up by the beginning to mid-May, it is at this time that the fish begins to actively spawn. May is the time to fish for pike, perch, roach and rudd, catfish, asp, crucian carp, carp and bream.
Please note that during the spawning period, a restriction on fishing has been introduced, but this only applies to fishing from boats and fishing lines with more than two hooks, and you cannot fish near the spawning grounds. When fishing with a spinning rod, in order not to fall under the violation of the prohibition, it is necessary to use a spoon, on which a double hook is placed instead of the usual triple hook.
In some regions, from May 1 to May 31, fishing is prohibited at all, for example, on the Seversky Donets River, but these are rare exceptions. After spawning, all fish go to the shore and begin to actively feed in order to restore their strength. During this period, she bites on almost any bait. For fishing, it is very good at this time:

- a nozzle made of bread dough;
- caddisfly larva, which you can find on the bank in the reeds;
- grasshopper.
In order for the fish to bite better, it must be fed. For this, a compound feed soaked in sunflower oil (with a smell) is suitable, or a special feed for fish, which is sold in any fishing store.
When using top dressing, remember that it can only attract "white fish", that is, not predators.
Fishing technique
Top dressing is scattered from the shore. The optimal distance for spreading is 1.5-2 meters from the place where the float of your fishing rod is. It makes no sense to increase the distance of the feeding, since the fish then will not come close to the place where your fishing rod is cast.
When fishing with a line, you can use the float to set the depth equal to half the total depth of the place where you are fishing. In order to determine the maximum depth, raise the float as high as possible and cast the fishing rod - if the float is lying, it means that the hook is baited at the bottom. Take the rod out of the water, set half of the previously set depth with the float and cast it again, the float should stand up. It is recommended to fish at such a depth during the May period of time, since the fish at this time rises from the bottom and is looking for food for itself closer to half the water level of the reservoir.
In May, it bites better in the afternoon, since by this time the water warms up well under the influence of the spring sun, and the fish begins to approach the shore even closer to search for food.
If you fish with a spinning rod, in this case you must remember that predatory fish, such as pike and perch, bite almost at any time, since predators are almost always looking for their prey.
If you fish in lakes with dark water (lakes where the bottom is peaty or heavily muddy), you need to use lures with light colors, and on reservoirs with light water - with a yellow or reddish color. This is necessary so that the bait stands out in the water and attracts fish.
