Unusual and bright objects of art are usually associated with handmade work, but in reality, with your own hands you can make not only a decorative thing, but also an object for practical and household purposes. For example, using the woodcarving technique, everyone can easily carve an ordinary spoon, which can be presented to friends as a souvenir, or can be used for its intended purpose.

It is necessary

  • - a wooden block or stick with straight fibers without knots (for example, a birch branch),
  • - a good knife for wood carving,
  • - marker,
  • - cutter,
  • - varnish for wood
  • - sandpaper.

Instructions

Step 1

The length of the piece of wood should be slightly longer than the planned length of the spoon. Using a knife, cut one side of the workpiece so that a cut plane is formed on it along the entire length - later this plane forms the back of the spoon.

Step 2

Finish the back, flattening it and smoothing it with a knife. Then continue to process the future spoon, giving its handle the desired shape - so that the tip of the handle has a slight thickening, and also so that there is enough wood at the end of the workpiece to cut out the main part of the spoon with a depression.

Step 3

After the handle of the spoon has been cut out, start carving the indentation, guiding the movement of the knife from the edges to the center of the workpiece. Use a marker to outline the lines of the rounded part of the spoon and start shaping it. When the spoon has acquired the desired shape, and when the main lines have been formed, sand it with sandpaper, and then use a router to select a small amount of wood at the site of the planned excavation.

Step 4

Alternatively, instead of a cutter, you can use wood carving blades and carefully cut a depression in the spoon along the intended contour. When cutting the groove, make sure that the knife does not go beyond the outline of the groove you have drawn. Deepen the notch until the spoon is at the desired depth.

Step 5

Also, make sure that its walls are not too thin. Modify the spoon by sanding it with both coarse and fine sandpaper and polishing the inner surface of the recess.
