We often encounter such a problem as the breakage of a zipper on a skirt or trousers. Of course, you can take the item with the broken zipper to the workshop, but it will take a long time, so you should try to replace the old zipper yourself with a new one. Naturally, you will also have to spend some time on this work, but it can be done in the evening when all other things are done.
It is necessary
New zipper, sewing chalk, thread, needles, sewing machine
Instructions
Step 1
Measure the length of the old zipper and buy a new one exactly the same size. It is advisable that the color of the zipper matches the color of your trousers.
Step 2
Unbolt the old zipper from your trousers using ordinary nail scissors. Do all this carefully and be careful not to tear or cut through the fabric near the zipper.
Step 3
Mark a line on the front side for topstitching with chalk, which can then be easily erased.
Step 4
Attach the new zipper to the seam so that the zipper teeth are slightly visible. This is to prevent fabric from getting into the zipper when closing the zipper. Then baste it with a different color of thread so you can easily remove it later.
Step 5
Open the zipper and baste the other side of the fastener to the other half of the pants. Then sew on both sides of the zipper.
Step 6
Run the stitch along the marked line. Check that the stitching is straight, without gaps, and that the seam is not gathering.
Step 7
Remove unnecessary chalk marks and basting with threads, as well as excess threads after sewing. If all the work is done carefully, then no one will notice the replacement, but if you rush, you can not only sew the zipper incorrectly, but also completely ruin the thing. That is why you should clearly adhere to all the rules for replacing lightning.
