In knitting, you cannot do without the science of reducing and adding loops to knitted fabric - if you want to learn how to knit various products, from hats and socks to more complex pullovers and dresses, you will need the ability to decrease loops. This can be done both on the front and on the seamy side of the knitted fabric. There are two common methods for decreasing stitches - they will be enough to master the knitting skills.
Instructions
Step 1
To decrease the stitches on the right side of the fabric, knit two stitches together at the top of the stitches. Place the working thread behind the knitting needle, resting it on the index finger of your left hand. Insert the tip of the right knitting needle alternately from left to right into two loops - first into the second, and then into the first loop.
Step 2
With a knitting needle, grab the working thread that is on your index finger and pull it towards you. Knit two stitches behind the top stitches. This action allows you to decrease one loop, and the decreased loops in the product will be tilted to the right.
Step 3
If you want the loops to slope to the left, knit them at the bottom lobes. Place the working thread in the same way as in the above method and remove the first stitch from the left knitting needle to the right knitting needle. Flip the buttonhole over and put it back on the left knitting needle. Knit this stitch with the next stitch in the knit for the bottom stitches.
Step 4
To decrease the stitches on the wrong side of the fabric, place the working thread in front of the knitting needle and place it on the index finger of your left hand. Insert the tip of the right knitting needle under the working thread in two loops from right to left.
Step 5
Pick up the thread on top in front of the knitting needle and pull it away from you. Purl two stitches. Such a reduced loop will slope to the right. Knit three stitches together if you need to subtract two stitches at once.
Step 6
The stitches will tilt to the left if you pull out two stitches on the left knitting needle with the tip of the right knitting needle, and then insert it into the two stitches from left to right and bottom to top. Remove both loops, twist them, put them on the left knitting needle and purl.
