Now in flower shops and large supermarkets, special ready-made substrates are sold for planting various indoor plants, including cacti. However, different types of this plant require different soil, so it is best to compose the substrate yourself, taking into account the needs of the plants.

- - fine gravel or brick chips;

Step 1
Make up a versatile potting mix. Take 2 parts of sod land, it can be dug up near water bodies or in floodplain meadows. Add leafy humus, this land is best taken in the forest.
Step 2
Put three pieces of coarse sand, you can add some fine gravel to it. Take one part of the broken brick and 1/10 of the charcoal, crushed into crumbs. To increase the nutritional value of the substrate, add superphosphate to the mixture (1 tablespoon per 3 liters of soil) and mix all the ingredients thoroughly.
Step 3
The finished universal substrate should be loose and breathable, slightly acidic and slightly damp. When such soil is squeezed in the hand, it should stick together, and when pressed on the lump, it can easily crumble.
Step 4
Prepared soil for planting cacti must be disinfected. Pour soil into a saucepan and place in the oven for about one hour. This procedure can be accelerated by using a microwave oven. Place the soil in a suitable dish and microwave for 15 minutes at maximum power. Cool the mixture. After that, it can be used immediately for planting plants.
Step 5
For cacti with large turnip (tap) roots, a larger amount of sod land or a little lumpy clay must be added to the substrate. These species require heavier soil.
Step 6
Epiphytic cacti need a very nutritious substrate. You can not add minerals to the mixture or put more leaf humus.
Step 7
White-pubescent cactus species, plants with large spines, bristles and hairs require large amounts of calcium and magnesium. Therefore, when making the planting mixture, add a little finely ground lime.
Step 8
Mexican species love calcareous soils, so add 1/10 of the total amount of chalk or marble chips when preparing the soil for these types of cacti. Thus, cacti will receive the necessary nutrients for their growth and development.
