Long gone are the days when women could not imagine their daily life without a spinning wheel. Modern craftswomen and knitters most often buy yarn from stores that offer a wide range of yarns of different thicknesses, textures, colors and materials. However, hand spinning wool can be a fun way to spend your free time. By learning how to spin wool with your own hands, you can touch the old handicraft tradition, master a new kind of skill, and also benefit from the unwound wool that has fallen into your hands - for example, from the wool of a sheep or a dog.
Instructions
Step 1
Different wool has a different texture, and before spinning, any wool must be prepared in advance. Sort dry wool thoroughly, remove debris and chips. After removing the debris, brush the wool using the special non-spun hair brushes.
Step 2
Comb the future yarn in small portions, gradually unraveling the confused and tangled fragments. After the wool has been combed several times, start the spinning process using a long spindle.
Step 3
With your left hand, pick up a small ball of combed wool from the total mass, and with the fingers of your right hand pull a small strand of 10x4 cm from the coma. At the base, squeeze the strand with the fingers of your left hand, and with your right hand twist it clockwise, forming a thin cord.
Step 4
Do not overtighten the tow, handle it carefully so as not to break the strand. Twist the strand until you realize that the degree of curl is already strong enough. Tie the twisted thread at the lower end of the spindle and then, holding the base of the twisted thread, pull another strand of the same width and length from the tow ball of the same width and length as the first.
Step 5
Hold it at the base with your fingers, and with your right hand take the spindle and place it at a slight angle to the working surface. Rotate the spindle clockwise while holding the top tip. The rotation should be uniform and smooth. Twist the spindle until the new strand is twisted just as tightly as the first.
Step 6
Wind the spun thread around the middle of the spindle. Continue to pull new strands out of the tow and twist them, rotating the spindle, and when the tow is over, take a new ball and put a new strand on the old one, twisting it slightly.
Step 7
After wrapping a sufficient amount of finished yarn around the spindle, remove the threads and wind them into a ball.
