Fashionable trends of the East have reached the ranks of handmakers. A new hobby is products using the kanzashi technique, an ancient Japanese art. The needlewomen reproduce both traditional flowers and create their own home decorations.
Kanzashi - what is it?
In the traditional Japanese sense, kanzashi are women's hair ornaments. They come in a variety of styles and are worn with a kimono. Kanzashi are not only beautiful adornments, but also show status and emphasize a woman's age.
Kanzashi are made from a wide variety of materials, but hana kanzashi have become the most popular in the world. These hairpins are made in the form of various colors and are intended mainly for maiko - young female geisha students. Kanzashi flowers are created from numerous small squares of silk using the folding technique.
Real kanzashi are created from precious metals, wood, turtle shells. Geisha disciples use numerous silk flowers for decoration, and experienced priestesses wear one modest but expensive comb.
This needlework technique has acquired many fans outside of Japan. The products are unusual and very beautiful, perfect for interior decoration or as a gift. In this case, it is not necessary to use natural silk. To create crafts using the kanzashi technique, needlewomen choose satin, ribbons, chiffon, crepe and other light fabrics.
Kanzashi bump
Today, the kanzashi technique is used to create unusual, original interior items. Cones look very impressive. Depending on the colors of the fabric, you can get either a festive Christmas tree toy or a modest decorative accessory.
To make the bump, choose satin wide ribbons in two colors. You will also need:
- ball for the base;
- tweezers;
- transparent glue;
- nylon / nylon thread;
- scissors;
- bead.
Cut the tape into even squares. Mark the center point on the ball. Glue one of the squares onto it, aligning the middle. Fold the rest of the blanks in half so that you get triangles.
It is inconvenient to work with the base on a flat surface. To prevent the ball from rolling away, place its jar / cup, the hole diameter of which is slightly smaller. You can use double-sided tape to fix it on the table.
Fold the triangle pieces again and sew along the long side. Stick four blanks on a square already located on the ball. It should be attached with sharp corners to the center of the base. The remaining rows will also be located, consisting of two parts, 4 parts each.
Place the second row of cones in the intervals of the first, sticking just below. Use the following four parts to cover the resulting empty spaces. Make sure that the last four triangles are in line with the previous ones along the bottom edge. Create subsequent rows in the same way, changing colors.
When the ball is almost completely hidden under the "petals", turn it over and cover the empty space with a satin square (as at the very beginning). Glue the last rows of triangles on top of it, strictly observing the direction of the corners (they should be directed outward, like the entire product). Decorate the top of the cone with the remnants of the ribbon, collecting it into an impromptu flower on a thread. Finish off with a beautiful bead, button or hanging loop.
