An apron with a bib is a versatile workwear that is comfortable both in the kitchen and in the shoemaker's shop. You can sew it from cotton fabric, leather, oilcloth. Despite the fact that such an apron is easy to sew, you first need to make a pattern.
Take measurements
Measure the height of the bib. Its upper edge will run along the chest line or slightly higher, and the lower edge will run along the waistline. Apply the zero mark of the measuring tape to the navel. Lay the centimeter strictly perpendicular to the waistline, while it should not sag or stretch too much. Measure the distance and record the measurement. Also measure the width of the bib (distance between the nipples).
You also need to know the length and width of the bottom. The length depends on the purpose of the apron. If you are going to wear it when preparing dinner, the apron can be short - up to mid-thigh or slightly lower. In a shoemaker or at a workbench, a long apron is more convenient - up to the knee or even longer. For width, measure the distance between the bulging points of your hips. If you want the apron to slide over your head, measure the length of the strap.
Constructing the bottom
The base of the bottom is a rectangle. Take a large piece of graph paper. Place a point on the border of the edge and the outlined part. Set aside the length of the lower part down, to the right - the width of the lower part. Draw perpendiculars to both points. They will intersect and you will have a rectangle. The pattern can be modeled - for example, by rounding the bottom corners.
Constructing the top
The top is also a rectangle. It is built in almost the same way as for the lower part. Put a dot on the graph paper. Set the width of the bib to the right, and the height down. Draw perpendiculars to the intersection. This part of the pattern can also be modeled - to make a curly outline of the upper line or by rounding the upper corners.
Belt
The belt can be tied or buttoned. In the first case, the pattern on paper can be skipped. It is enough to measure the waist circumference and multiply it by 2, and also determine the width of the belt. This belt is cut straight from the fabric. You need 2 parts. Don't forget to add allowances on all sides. If the belt is fastened, its length is equal to the girth of the waist with 5 cm added to it for the fastener. The mold is a strip of the appropriate size. However, even such a belt can be cut straight from the fabric. As for the tying one, you need 2 identical parts.
Straps
There can be one or two straps. It is also better to cut them straight from the fabric, and it is possible to cut them in one piece. Multiply the strap width by 2. Take allowances into account. Cut out a strip of the desired length and width. Fold it in half, right side out, aligning the long sides. Fold over the allowances and press them to the wrong side. Press the fold too. Sew a strip along the two short and open long sides.
