Merezhka is one of the oldest (one might even say ancient) types of counted stitching stitches. It goes well with other types of embroidery and gives the finished product a finished look.

Instructions
Step 1
Merezhka is a rather narrow line embroidery. The basis for it is a pre-prepared, thinned tissue. In other words, several adjacent lobar filaments are pulled out, and the transverse ones are collected in bundles. Or, several adjacent transverse threads are pulled out, and the lobular ones remain not pulled out and are collected in bundles.
Step 2
Merezhka "Stolbik"
Prepare the fabric for embroidery. Bring the needle out from the wrong side of the fabric to the right side, just below the left-most corner of the embroidery. Insert from the left side under the transverse, not pulled out threads. Grab 3-5 threads and exit to the right side without inserting the needle into the fabric. Go back to the beginning and insert the needle under the resulting post. In order to go to the front side, insert the needle into the fabric from the right side of the resulting column. Embroider the entire bottom side of the hem in this way and move to the top.
Step 3
Merezhka "X"
Prepare the basis for future embroidery. Sew the "Column" hemstitch as mentioned earlier. Secure the working thread in the middle of the cross side of the embroidery. Pick up the 2 extreme posts with the needle (the first under the needle, the second on it). The needle returns, wraps around the posts again (the first is above the needle, the second is below it) and is inserted into the loop formed by the working thread. Tighten. To prevent the knot from moving, make another loop.
Step 4
Merezhka "Punk"
To sew the "Punk" hemstitch, pull out more (than was done in the first two cases) the number of threads. In the middle, leave a strip of 2-3 unplugged threads. The working thread is fixed in the middle of the transverse side of the embroidery on the left. Bring the needle to the right side and cover with the working thread the strip of the threads that were not pulled out from the bottom up. The needle is on the wrong side. Now walk diagonally underneath the strip from top to bottom. Separate 3 to 4 cross threads and bring the needle to the right side. Further, the working thread horizontally from right to left on the front side overlaps the resulting "brush" ie. returns to the beginning of work. It is inserted under the transverse strip diagonally from bottom to top and displayed on the front side. This tightens the lower "tassel". Further, the working thread goes horizontally from right to left and diagonally under the strip from top to bottom and tightens the upper brush.
