The traditional way of assembling makes it quite easy to build a good model of a ship in a bottle and does not require complex skills and tools. But it is not suitable for assembling models with a complex hull architecture or a large number of sails. If you want to make a prefabricated case, consisting of several parts, you will have to use another method.

Instructions

Step 1

Glue a special ship holder to the glass inside the bottle. The easiest option would be to find a wooden plank with small pins for precise fixation of the model's body.

Step 2

Make the body of the model narrower than it should be in the drawing so that it fits easily through the neck of the bottle. Make all other parts in strict accordance with the drawings.

Step 3

Design a hinge for the masts that allows them to fold easily. It can be a thin spring or flexible plastic tube. Remember to keep the hinge invisible. To hide it, you can paint it along with the mast in a dark color or put a piece of tube on top of it when you set the mast upright.

Step 4

Install the masts, attach the forduns and cables to the model. Do not glue the lower ends of the stays so that the masts can fold easily, and do not cut them. Leave them long and pass them through the holes on the deck or bowsprit of the model. Check that the length of the stays is long enough to place the masts in an upright position.

Step 5

Attach sails, yards, braces, sheets and other rigging to the model. Novice modelers who do not have sufficient experience are advised to choose a simple schooner with oblique sails for their first work.

Step 6

Guide the elements of the running rigging using the stays in the same way as with the masts. The more straight sails the model has, the more difficult it will be to do this job.

Step 7

Place the ship in a bottle, set it on a stand, pull on all the tackle and secure them with drops of glue. Cut off excess threads and remove from the bottle.

Step 8

Pour tinted epoxy into the bottle if you want to depict the sea, and simulate waves with plastic materials. In this case, you can only assemble the hull up to the waterline. This will reduce its size and make it easier to penetrate the bottle.
