Gordon Edward Pinsent CC is a Canadian actor, director and screenwriter best known for his performance in Colossus: The Forbin Project.
Biography
Gordon Pinsent was born on July 12, 1930 in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. He was the youngest of six children. His parents were natives of Newfowland and Labrador: his mother, Florence "Flossie" Pinsent (née Cooper), was from Clifton, and his father, Stephen Arthur Pinsent, a paper mill worker and shoemaker, was born in Dildo. The ancestors of the famous actor came to Canada from the English counties of Kent and Devon. Pincent himself called himself an "awkward child", as he suffered from rickets as a child.
Gordon Pincent first appeared on stage at the age of 17. He soon landed a role in the CBC radio show, after which he made his way to film and television. In the early 1950s, he served as a private in the Royal Canadian Regiment for four years.
Career
One of his first Pinsenta series was the soap opera Scarlett Hill (1962), but he first became known to the public for his role as Sergeant Scott in the children's show The Foresters (1963-1965). Other works on television include the series Quentin Durgens, MP, A Gift To Last (also originator), The Red Green Show, Strict South (Gemini Award), Power Play (Gemini Award) and Wind in the Back and mini-series Pillars of the Earth (2010, the role of the archbishop). Also, the actor played King Babar in the animated series Babar and the cartoon "Babar the Elephant" (both - 1989). The pilot series A Gift To Last was later adapted by playwrights Walter Löning and Alden Knowlen for stage production, becoming one of the most popular Christmas plays on the Canadian stage.
Gordon Pinsent also starred in films. He starred in The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), The Rowdyman (1972, also screenwriter, Academy Award for Best Actor), John and the Missus (1986, also wrote and directed, Gini "for Best Actor)," Ship News "(2002)," Emptiness "(2003)," Far From Her "(2006, Gini Award for Best Actor) and some others. Most famous for his role is the President of the United States in the science fiction film "Colossus: Project Forbin" (1970). In addition, Pinsent voiced characters in the animated films Pippi Longstocking (1997) and The Old Man and the Sea (1999).
In 1979, Pinsent was promoted to an officer, and in 1998 - a companion of the Order of Canada. In 2006 he became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Honored with a star on the Canadian Walk of Fame on March 6, 2007. On March 8, 2007, it was announced in Toronto that Pinsent had accepted an invitation to become the honorary chairman of Building for the Future, a fundraising campaign for the establishment of the Royal Canadian Regiment Museum. In 2008, 2010 and 2011, he hosted The Late Show, a documentary on CBC Radio One, in which Pinsent read obituaries of the most interesting Canadians who died in a year.
The video from the comedy segment of the program This Hour Has 22 Minutes, in which the actor theatrically read out several excerpts from the autobiography of Justin Bieber, has collected more than 240 thousand views on the YouTube website.
Personal life
In 1962, Pinsent married actress Charmion King, with whom he lived until her death from pulmonary emphysema on January 6, 2007. Their daughter, Leah Pinsent, also became an actress. He also has two children from a previous marriage to Irene Reed. Despite his venerable age, Pincent leads a rather active lifestyle, in addition to participating in various television projects, the actor is fond of golf and tennis.
His autobiography, By the Way, was published in 1992. In 2012, his second autobiographical book was published. Gordon Pinsent is also the author of a number of theatrical productions and television scripts.

- He is a Companion of the Order of Canada and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
- In 1997, Gordon Pinsent received the Earle Gray Lifetime Achievement in Television.
- Pinsent received his Juris Doctor degree from Prince Edward Island University in 1975, and is an honorary doctorate from Queen's University, Memorial University of Newfoundland and Lakehead University (2008).
- In 2004, Pinsent received the Governor General's Award, Canada's highest performing arts award.
- On July 12, 2005, in the actor's hometown of Grand Falls-Windsor, in honor of his 75th birthday, the Center for Art and Culture was renamed The Gordon Pinsent Center for the Arts.
- In 2012, the actor was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
