You don't need to have a lot of experience in tailoring to cut a pillowcase for your sleep. It is enough to find out the dimensions of the pillow and master the basic sewing seams. For a decorative product, for example, a couch, the cutting can be complicated: provide a fastener, elegant edging or a cover made of various companion fabrics. You will not need a lot of working material. So, for a pillowcase on a pillow of one of the standard sizes - 75x50 - a cut of 174 cm long and 56 cm wide is enough.

It is necessary

  • - cut of the working blade;
  • - centimeter;
  • - pencil;
  • - scissors;
  • - threads;
  • - needle;
  • - sewing machine;
  • - optional: braid, lace, frill, contrasting thread, zipper.

Instructions

Step 1

Measure the length and width of your pillow. One (bottom) cut piece must be cut out according to the perimeter of the product. At the same time, keep in mind that bed linen should be worn loosely on the thing, but also not large. To accurately fit the size, you need to focus on the thickness of the pillow. Usually, from each edge of the part, a margin is left for freedom of fit from 1.5 to 3 cm. Add to this the standard allowances for hem and connecting seams of 1.5 cm.

Step 2

Start patterning the second (upper) part of the future pillowcase. It will turn out to be elongated, with a wide hem on top to form a flap. Use the finished lower part of the product as a cut sample; for hem, leave a large seam allowance of 15 to 30 cm (depending on the fullness of the pillow) and another 1.5 cm for the seams.

Step 3

It is recommended to cut out a pillowcase that you plan to use as everyday bedding from one piece of cloth. This will save the thing from additional scars at the junction of the cuts. Make the necessary calculations and cut out a rectangle.

Step 4

Fold the cut piece in half with the right side inward, and on top leave an allowance for the flap of the desired height. You just have to process the cuts with double hem and stitch them.

Step 5

To design a two-piece decorative pillowcase, pattern the decorative piping around the perimeter of the side seam. You can also use ready-made tape from a sewing store.

Step 6

If you want to add ruffles to your garment, cut out a strip of fabric for them. Fold it in half along the longitudinal line and run the securing stitch with contrasting thread close to the top edge. Alternatively, lace up the top of the single-layer ruffle.

Step 7

Make the frill pattern long enough, then the gathers will turn out to be lush and elegant. The edging strip should be at least 1.5 times the perimeter of the future pillowcase. If necessary, sew a border from several pieces of working canvas or companion fabric in a suitable color.
