Every modern watch manufacturer includes at least a few diving models in their product range. They differ from standard watches in design and degree of water resistance. Choosing the right watch from a range of diving models is not easy, so you need to know what basic requirements they must meet.
Diving watches
A quality professional diving watch must calculate the route, control the depth and time the dive and ascent to the surface. Their main task is to create comfortable conditions for a person who is under water. When choosing a watch for diving, the tightness of the case is very important, since moisture that gets under the cover, even in a minimal amount, can cause corrosion of the parts.
There is pressure at depth, which deforms the internal and external elements of the movement, so the thickness of the watch glass must be at least 4 millimeters.
The case for diving watches is usually made of titanium from high quality steel. Manufacturers cover the markers and hands with a luminescent substance, which makes it easier to see the time under water. All diving watches are tested for durability and condensation underwater. After passing the tests, all parts of the clockwork must function properly, and a condensation test is performed before and after testing to ensure the quality of the result and its relationship to the test.
Choosing a diving watch
If the watch is needed for swimming in a pool or at a shallow depth of natural water, you can purchase a model with minimal requirements - namely, with a rubberized leather strap, thickened mineral glass, a screw-down case back and crown, as well as a titanium case and water resistance level up to 100 meters.
If funds are available, it is advisable to choose a diving watch with a sapphire crystal that is resistant to mechanical damage.
For deep diving, choose a professional diving watch that is water resistant to 200 meters, a unidirectional rotating bezel, thicker case, luminescent hands and markers, and waterproof extra pads. In addition, they must be equipped with a long elastic strap, a snap-on clasp and a helium valve that traps water and automatically releases helium, preventing the watch case from exploding. Of the additional functions in a professional diving watch, it is desirable to have a depth gauge, temperature indicator, a countdown timer, and so on.
