The creation of highly artistic works on canvases, various household items, on aeromodels and cars using an airbrush is difficult, but no less interesting from this. In addition, the results obtained by contemporary artists are amazing.
It is necessary
Airbrush, various dyes and paints, solvents
Instructions
Step 1
If you decide to try your hand at airbrushing, then you should not immediately acquire an expensive imported device from Pash or Azteh. Firstly, there are cheaper but good quality airbrushes from Polish manufacturers on sale. Secondly, you can purchase separately a “trigger” or a tip with replaceable nozzles (nozzles that change the size of the nozzle opening), and assemble the rest of the structure from cheap units and parts.
Step 2
The rest of the design of the apparatus will look like a homemade soldering system for jewelers: a compressor from an old refrigerator connected with a hose to a sump jar, and then with an airbrush tip, that's the whole trick. According to the craftsmen, it works like a professional airbrush, and it costs several times cheaper. Add to this that such a simplified system is less complicated to maintain.
Step 3
Try painting on an unnecessary piece of cardboard or fiberboard, or on an old doll, for example. It depends on whether you are going to paint flat or three-dimensional surfaces. In addition, canned paints (be it acrylic, oil or nitro paint) are thicker than required for an airbrush. They will have to be diluted with various solvents, constantly trying on an unnecessary object. The solvent should be added very carefully: too liquid paint will not lay evenly, smudges will appear.
Step 4
As you try the airbrush on a draft, practice adjusting the dye jet. In cheap or old models, nozzles are changed, in new ones there is a smooth adjustment of the spray intensity, which is the main advantage of modern devices. But, nevertheless, the main thing here is experience, so do not regret paints to "fill" your hands.
Step 5
A few more tips from experienced craftsmen: Always keep the airbrush nozzle perpendicular to the surface to be painted. If smudges appear, wait for them to dry completely, then remove with sandpaper. Try to apply paint so that you get only one layer.
Before pouring in a new color, flush the airbrush's canister, or have several removable canisters. To avoid flushing or changing tanks too often, first draw a subtle sketch on the surface, using which to paint over areas of the same color. Learn to apply tonal transitions by changing the distance from the nozzle to the surface of the object to be painted.
