Every year, during the cherry blossom season, hundreds of artists gather to sketch these delicate cherry blossoms. If you don't have the opportunity to travel to Japanese gardens for inspiration, try drawing sakura from a photograph.
Instructions
Step 1
Place a sheet of watercolor paper on an easel or lay it horizontally on the table. From the lower right corner, step back 2-3 cm. From this point, draw a line up to the left. A bunch of flowers will be located on this branch.
Step 2
Start at the top row. Draw the central flower facing the viewer. First outline it in a circle. Then divide the shape into five petals. Make the side petals wider than the top and bottom. The upper petals are the same width both in the center and at the edges. Draw the bottom one narrower at the base and gradually expand towards the edge.
Step 3
To the right and left of this flower, draw identical flowers consisting of three petals. On the left, at the top of the branch, mark the outline of the flower turned to the left. Draw its upper half in the form of a semicircle, then add the lower elongated petals.
Step 4
Add the second row of inflorescences below. Make these copies more elongated in width. Due to the chosen angle, their upper petals look half the size of those on the sides and bottom.
Step 5
Sketch the bottom row with thin, barely visible lines. It shows flowers turned down. Therefore, their upper petals can be drawn in the form of a thin crescent moon.
Step 6
Use a nag eraser to loosen the sketch lines. They should not be visible through the transparent watercolor layer.
Step 7
Color the drawing taking into account the illumination of each cherry blossom. Start with those in the top row, which means they are more illuminated by the sun. In the grooves of the petals, apply a light pink color with the addition of yellow. While the paint has not dried, spread it over the entire surface of the petals, wash away the highlights with a clean wet brush. In places of your own shadow, add strokes of light blue, in combination with pink, it will give a shade of lilac. Draw yellow stamens on the dried flower with a thin brush, distribute the crimson color around them.
Step 8
As you move down, the cherry blossoms become colder and less saturated. Add more blue and a little brown to the palette.
Step 9
Fill the background of the drawing with broad strokes, adding blurry spots of flowers on the wet paper. Such a blurred background will not distract attention from the main subject of the drawing.
