The spinner has become popular among children and young people relatively recently, but on the street and in educational institutions you can find many guys spinning spinners of all shapes, colors and sizes in their hands. The toy gained fame only in the second decade of the twenty-first century, and in fact it was invented many years ago. So who invented the spinner in 1994 and what was it for then?

There are several versions of who and why invented the spinner, but they all agree on one thing - a certain Katherine Hettinger was inventing it. An American, a Florida resident, the mother of a girl with myasthenia gravis, made the first such toy in 1993 for her daughter. The essence of the disease was that the girl had chronic muscle weakness, she got tired very quickly, and was often nervous because of this.

The disease did not allow the child to fully enjoy various games, and the mother could not pay much attention to the girl. A way out of this situation was a spinner, which initially had the shape of a hat with fields with a diameter of 10-15 centimeters, it, like a modern toy, could be spun on a finger.

However, the spinner in its modern form does not look so much like the toy that Katherine Hettinger invented. The rotary motion in the popular toy is supported by bearings. And who would have thought that it was this difference that helped a completely different person become rich - Scott McCoskeri.

The fact is that Catherine patented her invention in 1994, but none of the companies became interested in her invention, despite the popularity of the toy among the woman's friends and acquaintances. Katherine, who invented the spinner, did not renew the patent after it expired in 2005. And in 2014, Scott McCoskeri received a new patent for a spinner in its modern form.

Scott often performed in front of large audiences and was very worried about it. According to him, the inventor invented a toy for himself to cope with nervous tension by spinning a small object in his hands. He took Catherine's invention as a basis, adding bearings and a durable metal housing to it.

Not only the author who invented the spinner liked the toy. Many friends of McCoskeri asked to make the same spinner for them, and he thought about getting a patent for an invention.

We can conclude that the idea of such toys was popular among many inventors, and therefore it is difficult to say who originally invented the spinner. But this is not so important, the main thing is that the toy has become comfortable and now helps many people to deal with stress and have fun.
