Leggings (or gaiters) are usually called tight knitted knee-highs without feet, with or without footstocks. As a rule, this item of clothing is used for sports activities as additional protection of feet or shoes from snow, moisture and dirt. Leggings are relevant in modern wardrobe and as casual wear. The child in them will not only feel comfortable, but also look stylish. Especially if you make mittens, a hat and a scarf in the same style.

It is necessary

  • - two straight knitting needles;
  • - yarn;
  • - auxiliary spoke;
  • - circular knitting needles (optional);
  • - a needle for connecting seams.

Instructions

Step 1

Start knitting children's leggings with 1x1 elastic (front - purl). The product should stretch freely on the baby's leg, and at the same time not be too tight. Traditional gaiters can also be made, which will be worn on upper shoes. Select the size of the elastic (and the number of loops, respectively) individually using a knitting pattern.

Step 2

Tie in straight and back rows an elastic band about 7 cm high, then move on to the pattern of your choice. On children's leggings, embossed patterns from braids will look good. Tie several rows of purl stitch between relief elements.

Step 3

Calculate the optimal number of braids depending on the size of the knitted fabric. For example, for each serpentine braid, you will need 8 front loops and at least 3 purl loops for the background.

Step 4

Tie the pigtail on the gaiters in this order. In the first row of the pattern, make only the front loops, in the second - purl. From the third (front) row, you must use the auxiliary knitting needle. You can use a special tool for knitting braids.

Step 5

Set aside 2 pairs of stitches for work on the auxiliary knitting needle, and knit the next 2 pairs. After that, put into work the 4 front loops set aside for the pigtail. In the purl row, knit all the loops as purl.

Step 6

Follow the pattern for the first and second rows (see step 3) until you have finished the tenth row. In the eleventh front row of knitting leggings, rearrange the loops for the "snake" braid again. Now you need to put 4 loops on the auxiliary knitting needle before knitting; knit adjacent thread arches and only then - the set aside loops.

Step 7

Complete the twelfth, purl, row. Then you need to repeat the first and second rows again - and so on until the sixteenth row. The finished element of the embossed pattern (rapport) is complete. Next, you need to knit leggings according to the pattern until you reach the desired height (7 cm below the child's knee).

Step 8

Tie the top elastic of the gaiter and close the loops. You just have to make a connecting knitted seam from the wrong side of the product.

Step 9

If desired, make fixing strips: type 4 loops on the left and right of the lower cuffs and tie the strip along the thickness of the foot (or upper shoe). Close the loops of the last row and sew the edge of the strap to the wrong side of the cuff.
