"Spiral" knitting is an interesting and unusual technique, the fabric is twisted due to the displacement of the loops. Simple and original things can be done in this technique. Usually it is used for knitting oversized things, but you can turn on your imagination and knit something unusual.
For spiral knitting, you need to dial an even number of loops and distribute them on circular or stocking needles. Since the canvas consists of squares of front and back loops, it should be taken into account when typing.
For example, the "traditional" square of the fabric in a spiral consists of four loops (each square), which means the number of loops that are typed should be a multiple of eight (four loops for a square from front and four for a square from purl). The number of loops in the squares can be any.
The height of the square is equal to its base, if 4 loops were typed for it, then the height of the square is four rows.
Squares can consist of at least 2 loops, but spiral knitting can also be performed 1x1 loop (one front and one purl), the main thing is to observe the principle of spiral knitting.
In the process of knitting, it is necessary to shift 1 loop to the side so that the fabric twists and turns out to be a spiral. To do this, tie the purl over the first front square, and tie the front over the first purl (as shown in the diagram).
Spiral knitting is used to perform dimensionless socks, mitts, knee-highs. This technique is suitable for those who have difficulty calculating and deducting loops. Spiral knit socks are universal, there is no need to knit the heel, they are suitable for any foot size.
It is not necessary to knit dimensionless things; in spiral knitting, you can reduce and add loops. To reduce the loops, it is enough to knit two loops together in each square, and in the next row knit squares from a different number of loops.
For example, to knit a hat using the "spiral" technique, you need to dial loops, taking into account that their number should be a multiple of eight. Perform the cap lapel and its main part (only the main part, depending on the cap model) with squares of four front and four purl stitches. In most models of hats there are deductions (usually they are made immediately after the main part), the number of loops on the needles in the last row should be small (usually six to eight).
In the last row of each square, you need to reduce one loop, just knit the two middle loops together. In the next row, perform squares of three knit and three purl, after a few rows, make deductions again. Knit several rows of two front and two purl (there are two rows in each square), again lower the loops. Knit one row with 1x1 elastic band, make deductions, 6-8 loops should remain.
To add loops, a yarn is made in each square, in the next row it is knitted with a blind loop (it is important to knit loops with an offset, otherwise a spiral will not work).
