Irish lace is the ancient art of creating lace from separately knitted elements connected by an openwork mesh. Seeing him for the first time, even in a photograph, it is difficult to resist the temptation and not try to create something similar with your own hands.

Step 1
Knit a napkin using the Irish lace technique, it will help you master the difficult method with a simple example. Several traditional motifs are used in this knitting (rose, bunch of grapes, grape leaf, etc.). Tie several elements, place on a thin nylon and sew, trim the canvas with braid.
Step 2
Tie a voluminous rose: cast on five air loops and lock into a ring. In Irish lace, the so-called bourdon is used - a thick thread or several threads that pass inside the knitting and are the basis for tying with a single crochet. This gives volume to details such as the center of a flower or the outline of a motif. In this case, it is not advisable to use a bourdon, because this rose itself is voluminous, and its center does not need to be thickened.
Step 3
Tie five air loops from where the ring joins (for lifting). Tie the ring with five double crochets, after each column, knit two chain stitches. Close the row with a connecting loop that knits into the third chain stitch of the first chain. It turned out a ring with six small arches for the petals.
Step 4
Tie each petal: one single crochet, three double crochets, one single crochet. Complete the row with a connecting loop in the first double crochet of the first petal. Then tie the base for the second row of petals: three air loops, a single crochet in the place between the two single crochets of the previous row (where the petals join).
Step 5
Tie the petals of the second row by tying each arch of three stitches with one single crochet, five double crochets, and one single crochet. Note that your second row will be positioned above the first (third above second, etc.). Thus, you will get a voluminous rose by turning the knitting over.
Step 6
Continue making the rows of petals, each time adding one chain stitch to the base of the petal and two double crochets to the petal strap.
