It is necessary

  • - paraffin;
  • - stearin;
  • - wax;
  • - wick;
  • - dye for wax;
  • - wax crayons;
  • - candle mold;
  • - liquid detergent;
  • - materials for decorating a candle.

Instructions

Step 1

At home, candles can be cast from paraffin shavings, wax or candle scrap. If you are going to use pure paraffin, add twenty grams of stearin to one hundred grams of paraffin. This will add additional plasticity to the candle mass and help extract the coloring matter from the leaves and flowers if you use them to add color to the melt.

Step 2

Prepare a candle mold. In this capacity, you can use silicone baking dishes, plastic cups, cans. To make curly candles, make a papier-mâché shape. Sculpt the base from plasticine, wrap it with a wet paper towel and cover it with small pieces of newspaper so that you get a layer of paper one and a half to two millimeters thick.

Step 3

Cut the dried mold into two halves and remove the plasticine base from it. In the upper part, leave a hole into which the candle mass will be poured. Fasten the pieces of the form with threads or elastic bands.

Step 4

Most often, candle molds are recommended to be lubricated with any liquid detergent. It will help remove the frozen candle. Sometimes vegetable oil is used for this purpose, but it can leave sloppy stains on the surface of the candle.

Step 5

Place the wick in the mold. It can be made from several cotton threads, woven into a pigtail and soaked in paraffin. If you are going to melt finished candles, carefully remove the wicks from them. In addition, wicks can be purchased along with other handicraft items.

Step 6

Make a small hole in the bottom of the mold and insert the wick into it. Place a pencil or stick on top of the mold, fixing it exactly in the center, and tie the top of the wick to the resulting crossbar. For small candles, it is better to use short wicks fixed in metal supports.

Step 7

If you are going to decorate the candle with spices or shells, make a cardboard insert. Its diameter should be one and a half or two centimeters less than the diameter of the future candle. Insert the insert into the mold and fill the space between their walls with decorative material. When making such a candle, the upper part of the wick should be fixed so that you can remove the insert during the solidification of the candle mass.

Step 8

Melt paraffin wax or wax in a water bath. To color the candle mass, add dye or wax crayons pounded into shavings. Stir the mixture to obtain a uniform color. If you want to make a multi-colored candle, divide the melt into pieces and paint each in its own color.

Step 9

Pour the melted mass into the prepared mold. If you are making a candle in a mold with an insert, gradually remove it so that the melt fills the gaps between the individual fragments of the decor, but the objects used for decoration did not have time to move to the center. When casting a multi-colored candle, pour in a mass of the same color, let it cool slightly and pour in the next batch.

Step 10

Let the mold cool at room temperature for five to six hours. Carefully cut off the excess part of the wick and remove the finished candle. If the mold does not come off well, place it in the freezer for half an hour.
