Isothread or, as it is also called, thread graphics appeared in England. This technique was used to make cute products for decorating the house (tablecloths, napkins, and so on). Using the isothread technique, you can embroider on cardboard, creating unique postcards, paintings and decorations.
It is necessary
- - cardboard or velvet paper;
- - multi-colored threads;
- - a needle;
- - awl;
- - ruler;
- - compasses;
- - pencil;
- - scissors.
Instructions
Step 1
Any cardboard or velvet paper is suitable as a base for embroidery. The base should be fairly tight so that the embroidery does not become tight.
Step 2
You can use absolutely any thread for embroidery. If you embroider with woolen threads, then the embroidery will turn out to be more voluminous, it is good to embroider a large area with them. Also floss, and "Iris", and even ordinary sewing threads are suitable. If you embroider with them, then the pattern will turn out to be more graphic.
Step 3
Copy the drawing you like onto cardboard. You can translate it using carbon paper, or copy it onto tracing paper and then onto cardboard, pressing hard on the pencil so that clear lines remain on it.
Step 4
Use a thick needle or a punch to punch holes along the outline of the pattern. Try to keep the distance between the holes the same.
Step 5
You can also use a sewing machine to speed up this work. Set the largest stitch and sew along the outline. However, for this you need to have excellent sewing skills, since even one wrong movement will nullify all your efforts.
Step 6
There are 2 techniques for embroidery on cardboard. The first one is corner filling. Insert the thread into the first hole at the base of the corner and pull it to the first hole from the top, bring the thread to the wrong side and insert it into the first hole from the corner on the opposite side and pull it diagonally to the first hole from the base of the corner. Next, do the same, introducing the needle at the second point, and so on, until you fill in the entire corner.
Step 7
The second technique is filling the circle. Divide the circle into 12 equal parts and make holes with a needle. Sew isosceles triangle stitches connecting opposite points of the circle.
Step 8
In addition, you can embroider on cardboard in the usual ways, that is, satin stitch, cross stitch, French knot, and so on. By combining all these techniques, you can make a very effective and unusual embroidery.
