Step 1

A candle is a wonderful souvenir that can add a touch of mystery and romanticism to the atmosphere of the holiday. Today it is no longer possible to surprise anyone with handmade candles. Everything you need for this can be purchased in a specialized store or you can get by with ordinary household candles and improvised means. And if you take care of candle decorations and fragrances, you can make a souvenir that is many times superior in beauty and properties to store options.

Step 2

A candle can be made from wax, paraffin, or stearin. If this is your first experience of such office work, it is better to stop on paraffin, or even better - get ordinary household candles. This way you don't have to waste time making wicks. Cut the candles into small pieces, remove the wicks from them and put the raw materials to melt in a water bath. All candle molds prepared in advance must be lubricated from the inside with dishwashing liquid. You can use a wide variety of containers as molds - yogurt cups, cake tins, baby pastes, ordinary glass glasses, etc. Glasses are good because all the decorations you use will be visible through the glass.

Step 3

To fix the wick in the mold, you need to tie some kind of weight to one end of it, and a toothpick or pencil to the other so that it ensures that the wick is located strictly in the center of the future candle. Now tackle the melted paraffin wax. To color it, you can use ordinary food colors or natural ingredients - turmeric, cocoa, beet or carrot juice, etc. The simplest and most economical option is wax crayons for painting. Do not use gouache or watercolor for these purposes, as they are not able to mix well with wax or paraffin. In this case, they will simply settle to the bottom or float in flakes in the bulk.

Step 4

If you wish, you can use shadows or lipstick to decorate the candles. However, it must be remembered that the aroma exuded by such a candle may not always be pleasant. If we are already talking about smells, essential oils are suitable as a fragrance. Moreover, you can always choose a scent, depending on your mood and the effect you plan to get. For example, orange essential oil will invigorate and give energy, lavender will soothe, and vanilla will awaken lust.

Step 5

In the final step, add embellishments to the paraffin wax. Everything here will depend on your imagination. Everything is good: sequins, seashells and pebbles, buttons, beads, coffee beans, flowers and leaves, etc. Gently pour the paraffin wax into the preheated molds and wait until the candle has cooled completely at rest. If you have difficulty removing it from the mold, you can try putting it in the refrigerator or, conversely, slightly warming it up in warm water. Decorate the finished candle with ribbons, threads, bows and other handy material.
