Step 1
If the stain is large, or you just want to freshen up the canvas before hanging your work on the wall, you should hand wash your embroidery. Before you start washing, make sure that you are embroidering with a quality floss and that it does not fade in water. Then turn the work over to the wrong side and check that all ends of the threads are secured. This is necessary so that the threads do not come out during the washing process. Then fill the basin with warm water (no more than 40 ° C) and add a little detergent (dishwashing detergent or powder for colored fabrics). Put your work in the resulting solution for 10 minutes, then wash it, being careful not to damage the embroidery. Rinse the work under cool running water.
Step 2
There is also another washing method, which is suitable for both cross stitch and satin stitch embroidery. The work must be placed under a stream of cool water, so the risk that the threads shed becomes less. Next, you need to apply the same detergent to the canvas and wash the work in circular motions, and then rinse it with high quality. As a result, clear water should drain from the embroidery, in which there will be no foam.
Step 3
However, there are times when even washing cannot remove the stain. However, this does not mean that your work should be thrown away, because there are many tools to make the canvas spotlessly clean again. So, if drops of tea get on the embroidery, then you need to apply a 10% citric acid solution to the stain, and then wash your work in cool water. If we are talking about coffee or blood stains, then instead of citric acid, you need to take hydrogen peroxide. Also, many craftswomen may be faced with the fact that traces from a pencil remain on the canvas after marking the embroidery. In this case, you need to apply a soapy solution to the stains, pour ammonia on top and rinse the work with cool water.
Step 4
If the spots on the canvas are not displayed in any way, then you should think about how to fill the remaining space with embroidery floss (depending on the color of the canvas). Of course, this will take time and effort, but the chances of saving your job will increase!
