Embossed columns are convex or concave, depending on whether they are knitted with the front side or the wrong side. In both cases, the first row is knitted with ordinary double crochets. Turning the knit, make three lifting air loops before starting the next row.
Instructions
Step 1
To make a raised embossed column, crochet, insert the hook behind the second column of the previous row. You should not grab the top loop of the column, as with a regular double crochet, but the entire column. In this case, the double crochet is on top of the hook. Grab a working thread, draw a loop and knit like a regular double crochet.
Step 2
To knit a concave embossed column, crochet and insert the crochet behind the second column of the previous row. unlike a convex post, insert the crochet from the back, seamy side of the work so that the crochet of the previous row is behind the hook (and not in front, as is the case with a convex post). Grab a working thread, pull the loop to the wrong side of the work and knit like a regular double crochet.
Step 3
Performing certain embossed columns according to the scheme and combining them with each other, you can get various embossed patterns, braids, as well as elastic bands. For example, an elastic band for a hat or mittens can be crocheted, alternating one or two front (convex) and the same number of purl (concave) posts.
