Very often a good tent, which could last for more than one season, is put aside or thrown away due to the slightest damage that the user cannot repair on his own. In our article, we will consider the most common causes of tent failure and how to easily repair them. This is very easy to do. It is enough to spend a little time, get materials for repairs and follow some simple rules.

It is necessary

  • - Polyurethane glue;
  • - A piece of oxford cloth with polyurethane impregnation;
  • - Needle and thread;
  • - Heat shrink tube;
  • - Spare zipper pawl;
  • - Pliers;
  • In rare cases, a new long zipper, wax impregnation for awnings may be needed.

Instructions

Step 1

Most often, in tents, the zipper breaks at the valve or entrance. If the zipper doesn't work, you won't be able to use the tent. To repair a zipper, it is often enough just to put a new dog on the zipper. But it may happen that it was not the dog that was damaged, but the lightning itself - for example, a tooth pulled out from the chassis.

Step 2

If it happens that a zipper tooth is pulled out, then again - you can simply put the dog in place and separate this place with a continuous seam, which reduces the size of the gap in the part to be fastened, or sew in a new zipper. Option number 1 is preferable, but this is not always possible. The tooth may fall out not at the beginning or end of the zipper, but in the center.

Step 3

If the frame is broken, then you need to understand what material it is made of. If the frame is aluminum, and the breakage site is not involved and does not mate with other parts, you can carefully cut the aluminum tube on both sides, flatten it with pliers, make two through holes, and screw the tubes together with screws.

Step 4

If the frame is made of fiberglass, then everything is more complicated - it will not work to glue it, drill it too. Therefore, we use a heat shrink tube for the connection. You can also use a piece of old foldable antenna and superglue.

Step 5

If the awning is torn, then the issue is solved even easier - you need to cut out a patch from oxford fabric, be sure to glue it with polyurethane glue, glue it to the damaged area, and then go through the side seam along the entire perimeter of the patch. Further, the seam must be glued with the same glue.

Step 6

If the tent awning has leaked, i.e. the factory impregnation is washed, then you simply need to soak it with the standard impregnation from the sports store.
