How to build a basic dress pattern

The dress pattern is built on the basis of a basic pattern made according to individual measurements. The base piece is a drawing, which is a projection onto the plane of the forms of a human figure.

To build a pattern, take measurements, they are recorded at half size:

- chest girth;

- waist circumference;

- the length of the front to the waist;

- back length to waist;

- hip girth;

- shoulder length;

- back width;

- chest width;

- height to the most prominent point of the chest;

- the distance between the most prominent points of the chest;

- the depth of the front neck;

- the depth of the armhole;

- wrist girth;

- shoulder circumference;

- the length of the skirt.

Take a thick sheet of paper with a height equal to the measurement of the length of the bodice with an increase of 25-30 cm. The width of the sheet should correspond to half the girth of the chest with an allowance of 15 cm.

Build the basic drawing of the shoulder piece. Stepping back from the edge of the sheet, draw a vertical line AH - a line in the middle of the back, equal to the length of the product.

On the line, mark the height of the armhole at the back + 1 cm - AH, segment AB - corresponding to the height of the hips, AT - the length of the back to the waist. From points T, B, H, draw horizontals to the right, set aside the appropriate measurements, put points T1, B1, H1 and connect them with a smooth line.

Along the top edge of the drawing, set aside 7 cm for the neck. Step back 12-14 cm from this mark - this will be the shoulder. Cut out the resulting pattern, you can use it to build patterns for dresses of any style.
