Coziness in the house is most often created by little things - a beautiful tablecloth, fresh flowers in a vase, interesting pillows on the sofa … Beautiful, tastefully selected pillows in your house at first glance create a special atmosphere. Of course, you can come to the store and buy your favorite creation of tailoring, but if you decorate the pillows with your own hands, you can guarantee that no one else will have such beauty!

Method one

Create a cute and original piece of jewelry that can be sewn, glued, or somehow attached to the pillow. To do this, you will need the following materials: pillow, lace / tulle or chiffon, thread to match the fabric, needle, scissors.

Cut out the squares you want from the fabric. It is not necessary to achieve absolute symmetry of the squares - all the same, then you will fold the fabric. Use scissors to slightly round the corners of each square.

Clamp one of the squares and gather in the center, then sew a couple of stitches to thereby fix the fabric. Now take the next geometric shape, wrap it around the first blank, and sew both pieces together. And again add the third piece of material, connect and sew, secure with a knot. Here, one flower is already ready!

Now you have a painstaking but necessary work - to make as many flowers as you need for your heart. Of course, you can choose another silhouette - for example, a cloud or a lamb.

When you need the number of blanks for decor, sew all the details together, making the desired shape (in your case, this is a heart).

Method two

Decorate the pillow with embroidery. You will need: a pillowcase (preferably new), embossed cotton lace 2.5 cm wide, multicolored satin ribbons, embroidery threads, needles, scissors, and a hoop.

In this case, it is difficult to give a specific description of the work, because it depends on the pattern for the pillow you choose. Let it be an iris flower - bright and colorful, it looks very advantageous. You can choose different embroidery techniques: cross stitch, satin stitch, ribbons, cutwork and so on. The main thing is that you like the result!

Method three

Decorate pillows with buttons. To do this, you will need the following items: buttons (approximately 500 pieces for an area of 30 * 30 cm), fabric 45 cm thick on the sides (for example, white cotton twill), for the back side you will need a light cotton fabric with a pattern of 45 cm on the sides, scissors, a fairly large piece of paper or cardboard, a pen and a pencil, stationery buttons, a needle, a sewing machine, threads to match the fabric and other thread for contrast, filler for the product itself.

Take cardboard or paper and place the buttons on it in the order you want. This will help you sew them to the fabric correctly. By the way, it is not at all necessary to take monophonic buttons - you can creatively play up different shades of the same color or create a multi-colored bright picture.

Now, in fact, the very process of sewing on buttons. Connect the finished fabric with all the buttons sewn to it to the back of the pillow and stitch it. Mark where the buttons will be located, sew them on and tuck the pillow itself inside.

Method four

Decorate the pillow with applique. Working on such a pillow will remind you of children's labor lessons at school, and you will be able to go through the whole process of creating a pillow "from" and "to" quickly enough. To make your pillows one and only, do not take ready-made drawings from the Internet and sewing magazines for application, but try to portray something of your own.

Prepare materials for applique (all kinds of natural and synthetic fabrics of different textures - smooth, fleecy, shiny, matte), needles, threads, a sewing machine, fabric for a pillow or a ready-made pillowcase.

As a rule, work begins with a sketch of the picture - draw it at its actual size, then apply it to a base of dense, well-ironed material using carbon paper. Next, prepare a pattern for individual elements of the sketch and cut out parts from previously prepared fabrics (ironed, starchy or doubler-glued) along them. Make allowances for seams if the edges need to be folded and sewn by hand. For a zigzag machine seam, no seam allowance is required. Sew the appliqués themselves using a sewing machine or a regular needle. You can also use a special double-sided adhesive spider web that will help you stick the applique made of the material onto another fabric.

When using a machine seam "zigzag", cut out the part according to the prepared pattern, secure it on a piece of background with pins or a basting seam, then process the borders of the part with a machine seam "zigzag". Carefully cut off excess material protruding from under the seam with scissors. This technology helps to speed up the execution of the appliqué according to a given pattern, but the “zigzag” seam itself visually blurs the border of the detail, so it is not always used in standard patterns.

Quite often, to decorate pillows, they use machine applique using such a braid as a bindweed. To decorate the product, cut out the appliqué part, leaving a margin for the hem (0.8-1 cm), and stitch the braid on its front side along the borders of the hem. Fold over the excess fabric so that 1/5 of the tape width forms a wavy edge along the borders of the finished patchwork piece.

If you have already properly “stuffed” your hand in appliqués, try to master the technique of volumetric appliqué - however, it is possible that it will be uncomfortable to sleep on such a pillow.
