The bamboo flute is a wind musical instrument that is traditional among many peoples of Asia and America. It is played like a regular flute, but its wooden frame reproduces a richer, more distinct and unique tone. It is quite difficult to play this instrument, but very interesting.

Instructions

Step 1

First of all, practice holding the flute and placing your hands correctly. Do this in front of a mirror.

Step 2

Take the instrument with your left hand. Turn it with the mouthpiece towards you. Point the flute body to the right.

Step 3

Place the index, middle and ring fingers of your left hand on the three holes closer to the mouthpiece. Raise your right hand, palm out, and place your middle three fingers in over the remaining holes.

Step 4

Purse your lips and lift the flute so that the mouthpiece is slightly in front of and just below the opening between your pursed lips. A bamboo flute is a wind instrument, so to generate sound, you need to create a column of air inside it. To do this, you must blow air through the mouthpiece, not into it.

Step 5

The upper lip should always be in a half smile, and the lower lip slightly pushed forward. The main mistake that novice flutists make is lips with a straw, do not forget to "smile" all the time while playing the bamboo flute.

Step 6

Raise all your fingers and, pursing your lips, "hit" with a constant stream of air through your mouth. Experiment with different placement of the instrument, and blow the air through your lips in different ways until you can create a steady, clear tone.

Step 7

Press your left index finger (the fingers closest to your mouth on the instrument) onto the first hole. Hit the air through your lips in the same way as before. The tone will be one note higher.

Step 8

Remove your index finger from the hole and pinch the middle next. Continue to place your fingers in the appropriate holes as the air flows through the flute. By clamping each subsequent hole, you get a tone higher than the previous one.

Step 9

Now you can combine several sounds, you get the simplest melody. You can learn musical notation with the help of self-instruction manuals for playing wind musical instruments.
