Inhabits the waters of the northern hemisphere and rivers of Siberia. He loves deep pits, pools, especially where ice springs flow. The best time to catch burbot is in the fall (from October until the freeze-up), in the winter (December-February) and in the spring (in March-April). They catch this fish at night, when the burbot goes hunting. The warmer the water temperature, the less chance of catching this fish. On a full moon, burbot does not bite.

Crawlers, live bait, red worms, dead frogs and small fish are used as bait for burbot. In winter, a ruff is best suited for bait, and in spring you can try to catch this fish with worms.

Experienced anglers advise first to "ferret out" the places where burbot lives. Then you need to put short meter-long fishing rods before dark. It is not difficult to fish out burbot, it usually offers weak resistance. The most important thing in this case is to prevent the fish from hiding under a stone or snag. You also need to be careful when pulling out of the water with a net - the burbot is very slippery and can easily wriggle out.

You can also catch burbot by hand in the old way. In Russia, this method was called "groping". On a hot summer day, a fisherman entered the water up to his chest and carefully felt the bottom recesses. Having groped the fish, with a quick movement throws it ashore. This method is especially good on the steep coast, under the roots of trees, near cold springs.
