There are many different mysterious monuments in the world, built by someone unknown, it is not known for what purpose, and, most importantly, how. Here are some of the most famous places of interest for scientists and researchers.
8. Newgrange
The construction of the mound took place a thousand years before the erection of the Egyptian pyramids, around 3000 BC. Sand, clay, logs and stones were used; the structure consists of a long corridor leading to the tomb. On the day of the Winter Solstice, the floor in the room is illuminated by the sun, but for what purpose this was done is unknown.
7. Pyramids of Yonaguni
They were discovered at the end of the 20th century by divers. The monuments are made of hewn limestone blocks at a depth of up to 50 meters. The find immediately sparked a debate in the Japanese scientific community: is it a natural monument of nature or a man-made structure.
6. Nazca Lines
The Nazca Desert drawings are located in Peru, on the arid Nazca plateau. The dry climate of the area, with minimal rainfall, helped to preserve these drawings, depicting a variety of objects and animals. Researchers put forward different versions from the religious beliefs of the Indians to the ancient airfield.
5. Goseck circle
A Neolithic monument of earth, gravel and wood, considered a solar observatory. Scientists suggest that the Circle could have been used for ritual purposes, and human sacrifices were performed there.
4. Monuments of Moai
Easter Island is famous for its huge human sculptures carved from tuff around 1500 BC. They are believed to represent the ancestors and gods of the islanders.
3. Arkaim
Mysterious Ural settlement of the Middle Bronze Age. Consists of a fortified city, a necropolis and a pasture. The structure resembles a fortress, the dwellings are made of clay and logs. The city had its own metallurgical production and even a high-tech sewage system. Most scholars believe that the city was used sacredly or was used during wartime.
2. Sphinx
The twenty-meter statue in Giza is hewn out of the rock and depicts the face of Pharaoh Khafra. Researchers do not know when or by whom it was created.
1. Stonehenge
The most famous monument in the world, shrouded in secrets and mysteries, is located in England. It is a stone circle, along the outer rampart there are almost 60 Aubrey burial holes. Earlier, at the entrance to the ring, there was a huge Heel Stone. Most scholars assume that the monument served as either an observatory or a burial place.
