A transforming dress is a model that can be worn in a variety of ways, while getting a unique look every time. It was first demonstrated by journalist and fashion critic Lydia Sylvester back in 1976, and after almost 40 years, the fashion for these dresses returned again, because just one model, which even a novice dressmaker can sew, can be turned into a chic festive or everyday outfit, into evening dress, skirt, tunic, top and even trousers.
It is necessary
- - 3 m of knitted fabric;
- - threads to match;
- - thin elastic band;
- - sewing accessories;
- - sewing machine;
- - overlock.
Instructions
Step 1
So that you can make a variety of draperies without any problems, it is recommended to sew a transforming dress from elastic materials. Reversible thin knitwear such as oil is best suited for this purpose. The size of the cut depends on the desired length of the dress. If you want to sew an evening version with a floor-length skirt, then you will need a piece 1.5 m wide and 3 m long. For a dress with a short skirt, you will need less material.
Step 2
To build a pattern, you only need 2 measurements. Measure your waist and skirt length you want.
Step 3
Build a skirt pattern. The cut of the sun is taken as a basis. Divide the waist circumference by 6. Fold the fabric into four sections to form a square. From the corner, set aside the resulting measurement and draw an arc. From this line, set aside the desired length of the skirt and draw another arc, parallel to the waist line. Cut the part, leaving 1 cm for the hem and seam allowances.
Step 4
For the bodice, cut out 2 rectangles 1 - 1, 5 m long and at least 20 cm wide. The longer these details, the more possibilities for draperies. Cut out the belt. This is a rectangle with a length equal to the waist circumference and a width of 20-30 cm.
Step 5
Use an overlock stitch or a narrow, dense zigzag stitch to cut the stitches. Place the ties at an angle so that they overlap. Attach the top edge of the skirt to this side and pin it with pins.
Step 6
Sew the belt piece along the short side and fold it in half across so that the seam is inside. Attach a cut of the waistband to the cut of the top of the skirt. Pin it all with pins and sew on a typewriter. To make the skirt fit better to the body, attach an elastic band to the cut and sew it with a narrow zigzag stitch.
Step 7
Try on the dress and adjust the length of the skirt. Cut off the excess. Overlap the edge. Fold over to the wrong side once and sew close to the edge. The dress can be worn and draped in a variety of ways.
Step 8
A skirt for a transforming dress can be sewn not only flared, but also straight cut. In this case, you will get a wonderful version of a cocktail dress or outfit for every day. To do this, make a pattern for a pencil skirt. Place to fabric and cut out. Sweep all darts and cuts and try on with seams outward. This must be done in order for the skirt to fit well on your figure.
Step 9
Next, grind off all seams. Iron them and sew the ties and belt to the skirt as described above.
