In the wild, the ficus Microcarpa, from which many growers make bonsai, can reach a height of 15 m. The advantages of this plant, in addition to its high growth rate, include endurance. This ficus feels very good on rocks, roofs of high-rise buildings, gutters. In Singapore, it can be seen all over the cracked sidewalks. Accordingly, at home, this plant does not require any special care for itself.
Instructions
Step 1
If leaves fall off immediately after buying from a ficus, do not be alarmed. In this way, the plant reacts to stress due to a change in environment. To remedy the situation, spray the ficus from a spray bottle more often, trying to get on the leaves. Soon the problem will disappear by itself.
Step 2
Do not overfill the ficus under any circumstances. Its roots can rot very quickly. Watering ficus Microcarp, which is easy to care for, is possible only after the top layer of soil in the pot dries out at least a couple of centimeters. Use only settled water at room temperature to moisten the soil under the ficus.
Step 3
Water the ficus in small portions. The soil ball in the pot should be completely saturated in about 20 minutes. If water appears in the pan after watering, be sure to drain it.
Step 4
Fertilize with bonsai, palm, or ficus products. Both root and foliar feeding of this type can be used for Microcarp. Apply fertilizer at the frequency and dosage indicated in the instructions. Feed only between March and October. In winter, this plant does not need additional nutrients.
Step 5
Ficus Microcarpa grows quickly. Transplant the young plant into a large pot once a year in the spring. Once the ficus reaches the desired height, reduce the number of transplants to once every 3 years. When performing this procedure, new pots-bowls should only be slightly larger than old ones. If this condition is met, you will get a spectacular ficus Microcarpa bonsai.
Step 6
When replanting, thoroughly rinse the roots of the plant with water and shorten them a little. Replace the earth completely. Pour all-purpose ficus soil into a new pot. You can also use fertile garden soil that is air and moisture permeable. Pre-arrange in the container drainage from expanded clay balls.
Step 7
Prune the ficus periodically, according to your taste and design. Prune twigs that are too long and remove excess ones.
Step 8
If you want to propagate ficus Microcarp, use apical cuttings. Cut them obliquely, treat their ends with the "Kornevin" preparation and lower them into a glass of water. You can also put the cuttings to root in wet sand, in a greenhouse. After about 20 days, after the roots have sprouted, transfer the seedlings to plastic cups filled with ficus or palm soil. Take care of young Microcarp ficuses in the same way as for adult plants.
