When creating collages, it is often necessary to lighten the model's face. This can be done by changing the blend mode of the layer or by adjusting the image with Photoshop filters. For optimal results, you can combine these methods.
It is necessary
- - Photoshop program;
- - the photo.
Instructions
Step 1
Open the photo you are going to retouch in a graphics editor using the Open option from the File menu. Duplicate the background layer using the Dublicate Layer option on the Layer menu.
Step 2
Change the Blending Mode of this copy from Normal to Color Dodge, Linear Dodge or Screen. Of the listed modes, the Screen mode gives the smoothest and softest lightening.
Step 3
In order to apply lightning only to the face, hide the rest of the copy of the background layer with a mask. To do this, use the Hide All option in the Layer Mask group of the Layer menu. Turn on the Brush Tool, click on the mask rectangle that appears to the right of the layer and paint over the face with white color.
Step 4
Duplicate the lightened layer for a stronger effect. If the face in the photo is more white than required, reduce the opacity of the lightened layer copy by decreasing the value of the Opacity parameter.
Step 5
A fairly strong lightening can be obtained by applying the Diffuse Glow filter to the image. Open its settings window with the Diffuse Glow option of the Distort group of the Filter menu. If you are not going to add grain to the lightened image, set the Graininess parameter to zero. Set the Glow Amount to about fifteen units, and set the Clear Amount to three.
Step 6
A lower Clear Amount value will result in a layer filled with white, while a higher value for this parameter will result in an image with too much contrast. By setting the Glow Amount to its maximum value, you will lose all shadows on the lightened face.
Step 7
The effect of the Diffuse Glow filter can be adjusted by lowering the opacity of the layer to which the filter is applied. If, on the contrary, you need to enhance the effect, duplicate the layer and overlay the resulting copy on the rest of the layers in Screen mode.
Step 8
Merge the layers using the Flatten Image option on the Layer menu and save the edited photo with the Save As option on the File menu.
