Dachshunds are funny little dogs that are often jokingly called "sausages" because of their unusual elongated body shape. This shape is not accidental, because this breed was specially bred for hunting badgers living in long burrows-tunnels. The narrow, long body and short, strong legs allow the dachshund to chase and retrieve badgers from their burrows. Dachshund is one of the best breeds to start with to learn how to draw dogs. It is good to practice on it in determining the proportions and balance of the body parts of the dog.

Step 1
Each animal has a specific body shape, which in turn is divided into smaller and simpler shapes (circles, rectangles, triangles, ellipses, etc.). By composing these geometric shapes in different positions, with different tilts and angles of rotation, observing the basic proportions of each species, you can literally "construct" animals in various poses that you need. The proportions of the dachshund are very easy to draw because every part of its body has an obvious clear shape and size. So, roughly sketch out the head, neck, chest, and rump of the dachshund.
Step 2
Then outline the long drooping ears, front and hind legs, and the narrow tail of the animal. Position the paws of the dachshund so that it stands confidently in your drawing, does not fall over. The line of the paws closest to the viewer is below the line of the paws, which are in the background. Follow these sketch lines with soft pencil lines without pressure, so that they can be easily refined and corrected.
Step 3
Now start outlining the natural contours of the dachshund's body, giving simple geometric shapes a more complex and accurate shape, focusing on the original - a photograph or the dog itself (if you are drawing from life). Do not strive for a completely exact similarity, because the drawing presupposes some "incorrectness" and the artist's own view. It is this intimacy of the drawing that makes it so much more valuable than photography.
Step 4
A very important step in drawing a dog is the eye contour. The eyes need to be drawn as accurately as possible, because they convey the mood and character of the animal, enliven the whole drawing. You can practice first by making a few sketches of the face with the eyes. When you feel that your hand is confidently drawing a precise outline, draw the dachshund's eyes in your main drawing.
Step 5
If possible, draw with one living line using a soft pencil to trace the final outline of the dachshund. At the same time, the line should not be of the same thickness: select the main shaping areas of the contour and the most shaded areas of the dog with a bold line with strong pressure, the illuminated areas with a weak, barely noticeable line, only lightly touching the paper with a pencil.
Step 6
With the help of shading applied to the shape of the dog's body, make the image of the dachshund three-dimensional. The body of the dachshund is very muscular and strong, try to convey all the main reliefs of its body. Draw a drop shadow, a light background, giving volume to the space of your drawing.
