A chef's hat is an indispensable attribute of a professional chef. This is a special hat that not only protects the chef's hair from contamination during cooking, but also prevents his hair from getting into the cooking dishes. Together with a snow-white apron or a dressing gown, a chef's hat is an obligatory workwear and embodies the almost medical sterility of every dish prepared by his hands.
It is necessary
- - Cotton fabric - 1 m,
- - A strip of non-woven or dense interlining fabric 10 x 60 cm.
Instructions
Step 1
Measure the volume of the cook's head with a tape measure. Cut a rectangle on the fabric with a length equal to the measured volume of the head, and a width equal to 20 centimeters. Do not forget to add 1 centimeter on all sides for seams and hem.
Step 2
Fold the rectangle in half along the short side. Sew a seam on the sewing machine, stepping back 1 cm from the edge. Iron the seam with a hot iron, turning the edges of the seam to the sides. Turn the resulting cylinder onto the front side and fold it in half along the circumference. Insert a strip of non-woven or dense interlining fabric inside, cutting it to the length of the measured head volume. You have the crown of a chef's hat.
Step 3
Take the remaining piece of fabric and cut out a circle with a radius of 35-39 centimeters. This will be the top of the cap, which can be sewn to the crown in two ways.
Step 4
For the first method, increase the maximum stitch width of the sewing machine and sew the seam along the entire circumference, stepping back 1 centimeter from the edge. Pull the bobbin thread and gather the top of the cap to match the length of the gathered seam to the volume of the head or crown circumference. Sew the crown and cap top together. Trim the seam from the inside and overlock it or overcast it by hand.
Step 5
For the second method, you will need a needle and thread. Sew the cut out circle along the edge, laying large folds 1-1.5 centimeters deep at intervals along the entire circumference. Calculate the resulting seam length to be equal to the volume of the head. Then stitch on the top of the cap at the crown, cut and overcast the inner seam.
