How nice it is after a hard day spent in the country to sit in the shade of trees on a bench made with your own hands. It will not only become a real decoration of your garden plot, but it will also be a great place where friends and family will gather. If installing a bench under a tree is not possible, make a kind of canopy that will protect you from the scorching sun on hot days.

It is necessary

  • - boards;
  • - bars;
  • - plane;
  • - saw;
  • - jigsaw;
  • - drill;
  • - screws;
  • - screwdriver or screwdriver;
  • - varnish or paint;
  • - putty;
  • - putty knife.

Instructions

Step 1

Everyone can make a wooden bench; for its manufacture you will need boards fifteen to thirty centimeters wide and two and a half centimeters thick. These characteristics are needed in order for the future bench to be reliable and as comfortable as possible. Avoid boards with knots, as these will significantly weaken the wood's strength. You will also need wooden blocks to assemble the bench.

Step 2

Prepare all the necessary elements for building a bench. Thoroughly clean the wood with a plane so that no burrs stick out, otherwise you will not avoid splinters. For the two front legs, two thick bars of the same size will do just fine. Use a wide board for the back legs, that is, the size of the board should be the same height as the legs and back in general. This design will increase the strength of the bench. Cut the top of the board with an electric jigsaw at an even angle so that the back is slightly tilted.

Step 3

Connect the side members of the bench structure with wooden bars. To increase strength, cut special groove holes at the joints. For fastening, use screws of the required size (but not glue), thanks to this, the handmade bench will not loosen even after many years of use.

Step 4

The main frame is ready, it's time to lay the boards for the back and seat. In those places where screws will be screwed in in the future, drill small holes (less than the thickness of the screw), they will protect the boards from cracking during screwing in. When screwing in, the screw heads will completely go into the tree and will not cling to your clothes in the future.

Step 5

The bench is almost ready, now you can fill in all the irregularities. If you have the desire and time, you can do an interesting activity - wood carving or burning various geometric shapes, animals, flowers. At the end of all work, cover the finished bench with varnish or paint.
